The Song of Birds
25’13’’

I used to call my sister a bird, an endlessly chattering one. Then one day, the sound of birds became harmonious to me, and I felt that I could understand them, as well as my sister’s jabbering.

In 2025, I grabbed my sony handycam and started documenting my daily life. The original idea was purely to document, to save moments without any purpose or hope of making anything meaningful. However, as I went on an hour-long video call reconnecting with my family before Spring Festival, I realized how drastically the place I was once most familiar with had changed.

This video, connected by our conversation throughout the whole film and pieced together with old footage taken by my family over the past decade, explores how my family is shaped, how policy and society in my hometown have drastically changed, and serves as a memory of my ever-loving, beloved grandpa.
